We have travel dates!!!
Well, it is official. We leave for China 10/24 and return home 11/9. We were unable to get the consulate appts that we wanted so we are going to have to stay 2 extra days in Guangzhou. Not exactly what we wanted but we are grateful just to have something final (and paid for!). We should know our in country itinerary by the end of the week.
Please pray for our family's health right now. Poor Ken has been battling a cold/sinus thing for over 2 weeks now and unfortunately it has spread to a couple of the kids and I. It is not a good thing when both Mom and Dad are sick! We are praying that it all gets out of our system before we leave in 2 weeks and that we can have a sick-free trip this time!!!!

Update
Still no ca for us but our agency was going to put tickets on hold for us until Monday for us to leave on the 24th. Just waiting for the official ok from the US Consulate. Once we get our itinerary, I'll post it for you.

Even if you are not one to normally participate in these kinds of things, really, when was the last time you had the opportunity to effect the lives of 5,000 children and their future families?

(some of you may be wondering why UNICEF is being mentioned and involved. Unfortunately, they have been a driving force in this initiative. While their claimed motives may be "for the children", the birth parents of those children who have already been referred have already legally relinquished their parental rights. So, in other words, these children will be the legal wards of a country who can not even house them, let alone feed them and take care of them. UNICEF has proposed a donation to the country to help take care of these kids. But what about permanent families? This goes against UNICEF's own statement on international adoption. (you can see it on their website) Anyone who studies the governments of Central America knows that the children will not see that money or very much of it. Sr. Berger is leaving office in January and I'm sure will be financially set, if you know what I mean. Personally, I can't believe how naive UNICEF is on this one. I know that their response to this crisis will determine any future support I might have given them!)

Guatemalan Adoption update
I got this from Dawn this morning. Please continue to lift this entire situation up in prayer. To the human eye, it doesn't look good but we know that God is much bigger than all of this!
"Yesterday, The Ortega Law was passed in Guatemala
Congress. This essentially means that unless
amendments are made next week allowing us to be
grandfathered in, (or unless we finish by Dec. 31) we
won't be bringing Nicholas home. NOt to mention all
of the other children and families waiting as well.
I am asking you my sisters, with a very humble heart,
to get on your knees and pray with me for these
children. God has a plan and I know that He does not
leave oprpahns to hang in limbo and because of
politics, that is what is happening. My heart is
breaking, not just for us, but for all of the families
and children in process. no one has answers for what
will happen to them at the first of the year.
I will leave it at this as I could go on for days
filling you in on all of the "issues" but in essence,
I would just really appreciate your prayers!!!!

We are waiting for the consulate to open back up on Thursday to get our ca but everything is looking good for us to leave on October 24/25.
It is hard to believe that this is actually happening - it has taken so long to get here. We are soooo ready to go. All of the kids are excited (Nathan is excited for us going and having my parents all to himself :) ) and I now have permission to kick it into high gear (I love to pack!). So here we come sweet Caleb!!!!!!
